Vishama Vritti

Vishama Vritti (Uneven Breathing) is a pranayama of intentionally varied inhale and exhale lengths to balance the mind, body, and nervous system.

  1. Starting Position

    Sit comfortably with your spine straight and your eyes closed.

  2. Breathing Pattern

    Inhale for a count of four, hold for a brief moment, and then exhale for a longer count, such as eight. Gradually vary the length of your inhales and exhales, maintaining control of the breath.

  3. Gradual Adjustment

    With practice, slowly adjust the inhale and exhale ratios to suit your body's needs. You may alternate between longer inhales or exhales.
